What Is The Best Offensive Line Blocking Scheme For Youth Football

There have been a few constants over my many years of coaching and one of them has been this basic type of block I have taught our offensive linemen. It is a modified version of zone blocking I like to call wall blocking.

This blocking has been the one staple in my over twenty years of coaching pee wee football, for my offensive linemen. Use it since it is simple to teach and works on a variety of grade levels. This style of offensive blocking has served me well with the older tackle kids as well as the younger flag players. It has been used with great success on my championship fourteen year old travel teams as well as the younger teams I have been a part of. Heck, I have even exploited wall blocking on my five year old flag football team.

The easiest manner in which to instruct wall blocking is to start the linemen with very tight splits. A split is the distance between the lineman next to you. You instruct the entire line that on the snap of the football all of the lineman move united, keeping as close to each other as possible.

Teach this technique to both the right and the left making sure the lineman stay together “like a wall” as they move together in unison. The secret is making sure that all of the offensive linemen open up, seal, move in the same direction and at the equivalent speed. Make sure there are many reps so the players can understand why they need to stay together, especially when they start to block as a group. Keeping repeating it to the kids, telling them we cannot allow any holes, or penetration in our wall. Tell the kids the if there are open areas, or penetration against our wall, we will leak, allowing for the worst case scenario. The biggest problem is when a defensive opponent rushes into our running backs, stopping them for no gain.

There is one goal for the line as a whole, stay together, forming a tight wall as they block in one direction.

A few of the primary advantages of wall blocking include:

Not difficult to instruct It is successful versus any defensive alignment It neutralizes defensive blitzing It works both ways (left and right) It has been successful with every age group It has been successful with every kind of unique skill level It has been successful in making outstanding open areas for the running game

Wall blocking has been and always will be an crucial blocking plan I teach to every player, on every squad I coach. I always instruct this technique early in the season since we will use it all season. I understand the benefits it gives my team no matter which style of offense I am using this season.

Lionel Messi’s F50 Adizero Adidas Football Boots

Introduced in August 2010 by adidas, the F50 adiZero football boots were created especially for Lionel Messi the world famous Argentine footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona. The new Messi adidas F50 adiZero football boots are mostly metallic gold in colour, fit for a football star of Messi’s calibre.

So what do these football boots look like? For starters…. they are metallic gold in colour, and very attractive looking. With black laces, black adidas stripes and black cleats, and with a hint of white, the gold provides a perfect background colour, and does not look gaudy or too loud.

The upper versions of the adida’s football boots are a super slim 165 grams in weight, which makes these adida’s most revolutionary football boot to date as well as their lightest! So how are these boots so light? Adidas has created two new advanced technologies to dramatically reduce the weight of the boot, while also maintaining its stability… these are Sprint Skin and Sprint Frame.

The Sprint Skin single layer synthetic provides reduced weight and excellent ball control, and almost feels like a second skin. The most obvious benefit of the skin is the zero water uptake…. this means your boots will not get heavy, even when they are wet. Sprint Frame is another feature which is on the outsole, which helps increase stability through geometry. The F50 adiZero football boot cleats also have a new outer surface material, which helps give greater ball grip in all types of conditions.

These adidas football boots adopt an asymmetric parallel lacing system which creates a greater, cleaner kicking surface. The top of the lace area is also rather wide, which means that your laces won’t get in the way much. There is a new ‘Taperlace’ system, which is a specially developed lace that reduces the material between the foot and the ball.

The boot also features new triangular Traxion studs, which are aptly placed across the sole unit, which help distribution of pressure. These studs on the FG plate also give improved directional grip. This design of the last is unique to the F50 series, and differs from the Predator and adiPure, which tend to have a wider yet flatter footbed. Because the studs are positioned closer to the outside of the sole, you get increased stability, and improved directional grip.

The new metallic gold Lionel Messi F50 adiZero adidas football boots hit the market from early September 2010, and cost around 125.

Puma Football Kits Outsell Nike & Adidas At World Cup

The 2010 World Cup is fast approaching with South Africa being less than a year away from kick off now and the quest from the major sports brand to produce the best selling football shirts at the tournament has already begun. More and more football kit brands are coming on the scene but there are still 3 names that dominate over most other Adidas, Nike and Puma.

At the 2006 World Cup in Germany Puma were the best represented company with 11 countries wearing their jerseys in comparison Nikes 8 and Adidass 6. Obviously it is very much dependent on which international teams qualify as to who will be best represented but this is a surprising result with Adidas and Nike regarded as being the top football kit suppliers.

Since the 2006 World Cup finals, there have been a number of transfers in the football kit world. The Russian national team football shirts are now manufactured by Adidas, having stolen them from Nike. Similarly, the Mexican jerseys traditionally one of Nikes strongest selling strips has been snapped up by Adidas. The German sports brand have also stolen a mach on Puma by acquiring the sponsorship of the Paraguayan national team.

A major advantage that Puma have over their rivals is their strong relationship with the African countries. At the 2006 World Cup Puma manufactured shirts for 4 out of the 5 African countries that qualified, Tunisia, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo, and look set to continue their strong relationship with Africa, having secured kit sponsorship of the African Nations Cup winners Egypt as well as Cameroon and Senegal, both of whom have made a major impact at World Cup Finals in the last 10 years.

The final kit manufacturers for the 2010 World Cup have yet to be decided by a lot of countries as they will be bringing out a new football shirt for the tournament so a combination of that and the uncertainty over exactly who will qualify means we cant predict the dominant brand for next year quite yet.

The top team that Puma produce their shirts for is Italy and they will be hoping that they can reproduce the success they achieved in 2006 with another World Cup win. The win in 2006 was Italy’s 4th time of winning the tournament.

Although Puma dominated the number of teams at the last World Cup, Adidas were the only one of the top brands to have a presence at every game as they were official sponsors of the tournament and provided the World Cup ball.

They also represented hosts Germany who were the only team who refused to let their players wear boots from a different manufacturer so were Adidas head to toe.

The race for dominance has certainly begun as we start to prepare for the final round of qualifying for the World Cup finals which will determine which brands football kits are the most seen and most purchased at next years World Cup finals.

One key factor that determines how popular the football shirts sales are is the style of shirt printing. For each major tournament, the brands launch a new style of printing which they will use for the next two years. Coming up with a unique, original style can make a huge difference to the volume of sales a jersey makes, particularly when a country has a star player like Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Over the years, we have had some unique attempts such as Nikes front circle at Euro 2004, Puma’s lower case prints at the 2006 World Cup and Adidas famous three stripe football shirt name and number lettering. It remains to be seen which will be the cool style in 2010.

Fantasy Football 101

Fantasy football is a very challenging, rewarding and, most of all, fun gaming activity. It is a relatively easy game to play, but very difficult to be good at, let alone master. We all indulge in this activity for the same reason we play any game-because we enjoy it immensely. Here are a few helpful tips to get you started and make the most out of playing fantasy football.

Study It’s one of the easiest things to do when immersing yourself in the world of fantasy football. This mostly involves a lot of reading and researching. There are a lot of hardcore fantasy football nuts out there like me, and it’s safe to say that despite the number of years I have been playing, I still learn something new every year. Utilize a good number of sites to do your research and try to improve your gaming skills. It all comes down to how much you want to know and how much time you are able to devote to the game.

Cheat Sheets and Rankings Before making the draft every year, make sure you prepare a cheat sheet. Print out a few rankings from some of the more reputable sites on the net and start building your own master list. A cheat sheet is the single most essential tool on draft day.

Do Mock Drafts A mock draft is simply a practice session for your real draft. This is an excellent way to get you accustomed to what a live draft should be like, and it also gives you an idea where all the players are drafted. Draft strategies can either be fine tuned and perfected or thrown in the waste bin to go back to the drawing board. You can do as many mock drafts as you can to help you iron out the bumps in your strategy.

Join a Fantasy Community You can have an edge in winning your games when you join a fantasy community. You can post questions about your team, get tips on sleepers, read up on strategies or simply just join in conversation about fantasy football or football in general. The key is having the right information and knowing how to use it to win.

Try Joining Different Fantasy Leagues It’s all about playing in a league that fits your gaming preferences. Try as many different league formats, websites and communities as you can until you feel all the pieces starting to fall into place.

Draft Players You Like to Have on Your Team While I don’t draft just my favorite players-that would be fantasy suicide-I will pass over the guy I am ambivalent about for the guy I really like if I have them closely ranked. My Sundays are much more enjoyable to cheer for a team of players I drafted that I really like as players.

Know What You Enjoy It won’t come to you immediately but when it does, it can turn you into a life-long fantasy football player. It is that simple. If you really enjoy the game, you will play it as long as you can. Take your time, enjoy each format and team you play as you go move along, tweaking what you want from your fantasy experience according to your preference until you achieve your ultimate goal in fantasy football-to be a winner.

Youth Football Team Struggling For Funds Try Community Sponsorships

Creating a youth football organization or team can run into some unusual challenges: where to play, how to get people to join the program, community involvement, funding etc. One strategy in overcoming multiple challenges is to gather local community sponsors. This articles intention is to give a couple pointers in extending invitations and garnering relationships with potential sponsors.

Make a plan

The first step is to make a plan. An old adage states, If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. A plan will consist of some basic marketing skills. First, start with people that you know. Second, understand the benefits of sponsoring your organization. Third, make the call and close the deal.

Start with people that you know

In planning to get sponsors for your football organization begins simply as a list of people. This could be anyone from a CEO of a fortune 500 company to the local delivery boy. It is amazing how much businesses rely on social networking, and you are two steps ahead of the game if you have a name, or a tie in to that organization.

Also, try and expand your circle of influence in a variety of ways. Get your football players and their parents to join you in sponsoring efforts. This will not only help you expand your circle, but is an ideal invitation to get them and their businesses to sponsor your team.

Understand your benefits

Here is a lesson from marketing 101: no one wants to hear how much a sponsorship is going to help youthey want to hear how this is going to help them. The more that you hone your pitch towards their goals, and their success the more they will listen.

Take some time to construct your pitch. How would a company, individual, or organization benefit from sponsoring your football organization? Are there ways to promote their businesses at your games? Promote them on your football jerseys? Will giving to your organization help the community feel better about their business?

Make the call and close the deal

Before you continue reading, stop and ask yourself. How afraid am I of asking for help? If you are 100% afraid then either you dont believe enough in your cause or you havent constructed a plan or pitch that is good enough. Start over and try again.

Now that we are ready to go lets start calling! Nothing will help your cause, pitch, or donations more then persistence. Realize that everyone is going to have their free choice. Not even the best marketers or salesman achieve 100% sales conversion. You will get rejected, but if you believe in your cause it will not deter you from trying again and again.

When ending your conversation ask for some donation. There are many styles of closing the sale. One strong tip is to avoid yes or no questions. Instead of asking, Would you like to sponsor our community team? Ask something like, Would you like to donate with cash or a check?

Conclusion

Remember that if you have a good cause people will join you. The most powerful thing that you can do for yourself and your team is answering the why question: Why are you doing this? The more powerful and resolute the answer is the better!
